WattOS frozen with new version R5


Ron Ropp has announced the release of wattOS R5, a lightweight, Ubuntu-based distribution featuring a clean and simple user interface in a customised LXDE desktop.WattOS R5 is based on Ubuntu 11.10 and the latest updates from the repositories.The kernel version 3.0.0-16 is the big difference between R4 and R5.



Some of the features that wattOS R5 includes Leafpad text editor,Gnumeric Spreadsheet,Midori Web browser,ePDF viewer,Pidigin for IM /chat functions,KeepassX password manager and Bittorrent transmission.FileZilla,a FTP program used for uploading and downloading to and from the FTP website is also available in this new version of wattOS.Pinta,the photo editing app that is easy to use,lightweight,more user friendly than Gimp,but has many of the same basic features.Jupiter is used for managing performance,power savings and manipulation of video settings.

The changes you could see from R4 to R5 includes kernel updates,SMPlayer as default video player,built in cheese web cam,Midori instead of Chromium,tweaks and improvements over psensor,powertop and others.In addition to that,R5 version brings you the latest powertop as well as xfce4 power manager.Native mail client is the only feature missing in the latest version.
